The Big Glasgow Comic Page (BGCP) is coming to Renfrew for the first time tomorrow as they set up the free event in Robertson Park on their 10 year anniversary.

The event will see comic favourites such as Bumblebee, Iron-Man and Spiderman come to life in the Renfrew area for people to interact with and see in person. The comic-con event, which is free to enter, will have a number of stalls filled with items that will capture the comic scene, allowing newcomers as well as die-hard fans to enjoy the occasion from 10am until 4pm.

Speaking ahead of the comic-con event in Robertson Park, assistant at the BGCP, Daniel, has recently moved into the Paisley area and feels the event will be great for people to get into comics as well as bringing a new activity to an area for people to enjoy.

He said: “The event this weekend that is being held in Robertson Park will be free to attend the event, it will see a mixture of different venders that will sell things like; Comic book novels, action figures, statues, trading cards etc. Weather depending, we may get to see Bumblebee and Iron man which will allow people to have photographic opportunities with them

“The people that we work with at Loch Lomond shores told us that we should try and do an event at Robertson Park. They said that it was a great market with Gala-days and theme days there and that we should give it a shot in this area. We have done events in the past in Paisley and they have always turned out in their numbers, so we thought why not.

The BGCP had an event in Paisley in the past which took place in the Paisley Centre, which was also a free-to-enter event. The turnout for that was great according to Daniel with the people of Paisley really enjoying the event as a whole. He feels that bringing that event to a place for the first time, like Robertson Park, will help people notice small pockets of their community that they didn't know:

“The previous times we have held the comic-con events, either being paid or free to enter, people have always enjoyed it and spoke about how much of a great day out it is. They say that they enjoy coming outside and maybe going to places that they would normally not be attracted to before, such as the park as some people won’t even be aware that it is there in their community.”
