The best Lord of the Rings games are a varied bunch that really demonstrate how influential JRR Tolkien's universe is. But despite a massive catalog of around 50 official and unofficial games set in Middle-earth, a few titles stand out, and I've decided to rank the top 10 of them for you down below, from worst to best.
Now, as a longtime Tolkien fan, I take any adaptation of Middle-earth very seriously. I also don't discriminate when it comes to genres, so I've looked at all the titles touched by Sauron's influence, from the best action games, best survival games, to the best strategy games. What my picks all have in common, though, is that they primarily stick to the established Lord of the Rings timeline. From retreading the footsteps of the Fellowship to exploring an uncharted part of Middle-earth's history, I've never strayed too far from Tolkien's original vision. That means you won't see anything directly based on Amazon Prime's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV series. So, if you were hoping to get spoilers ahead of The Rings of Power season 3, sorry in advance.
