It may not be December just yet, but many people will already be thinking about putting their Christmas decorations up.
Possibly the most important decoration of all is the tree - and it turns out there is a 'correct' day to set it up if you're opting for a real one this year.
Sunday, November 27 is just around the corner, but it's apparently the 'ultimate' day to go tree hunting, according to interior experts. The specialists have also revealed the best ways to make them last until Christmas and beyond.
Chris Harvey of Stelrad explained: "The 27th of November is the beginning of Advent, which is exactly four Sundays before Christmas day, giving people the whole weekend to get into the festive spirit and also be able to enjoy their decorations for exactly one month before Christmas.
"Another reason this might be a suitable date is for those people who purchase real Christmas trees. When taken care of properly, and by watering regularly, most real Christmas trees should last for at least five weeks or more.
"This means that you can definitely start decorating your home in late November if you fancy it and your tree will be in great condition for Christmas."
So, if you plan on heading out this weekend to pick the perfect tree, here are Chris's top three tips on how to make it last until the big day.
Pick a healthy Christmas tree
Although it sounds obvious it's really worth spending the extra time to look out for any brown needles and you should ensure to pick a tree that is in a shady location. Make sure to run your hand through the branches to feel if the needles are pliable and don’t fall off.
Choose the best type of tree
If you're looking for the longest-lasting Christmas tree, then Chris highly recommends choosing a Fraser Fir tree. These types of trees have a great pine smell, will also fit in most living rooms and is a great traditional-looking Christmas tree.
Check the water level
When you finally bring your tree home and get it ready, you should make sure to be checking the water level of your tree daily and refill as needed, it should always cover the bottom two inches of the trunk.
You should also make sure that your cats or dogs don't drink the water, as this is poisonous and will also drop the water levels.
Also, a dry Christmas tree can pose a real danger to your home as it can take less than 30 seconds for a dry tree to burn down most of your living room.
