What would you get if you put Death Becomes Her (1992), Shivers (1975) and The X-Files into the machine from The Fly? Something akin to The Beauty, a sex-and-gore-filled body horror thriller where people contract a STD that makes you hot, horny, and liable to explode into a fountain of blood and goo. With Ryan Murphy back at FX and in charge, you’d expect nothing less.
It’s a high concept premise with a high octane cold open. Although a hot open might be a more apt description. Bella Hadid plays Ruby, a supermodel stalking down a catwalk at Paris Fashion Week, who’s getting very sweaty under her red leather outfit. Fashion nerds will recognise the set from Demna’s Spring/Summer 2023 show for Balenciaga, which Hadid walked for in real life, where the catwalk was a muddy open grave.
