“One shot makes you hot,” declares the tagline for The Beauty, FX’s new dark comedy that blends body horror with Ryan Murphy’s trademark excess. Co-created by Murphy and Matt Hodgson, the series, based on a 2015 comic novel of the same name, centres on a mysterious drug that offers instant, unimaginable physical perfection. The catch? It’s also sexually transmissible - and its side effects range from grotesque to fatal.
Murphy has assembled a cast that feels deliberately maximalist. Regular collaborators Evan Peters and Jeremy Pope are joined by Rebecca Hall, Ashton Kutcher, Anthony Ramos and a rotating roster of guest stars including Bella Hadid, Meghan Trainor, Nicola Peltz Beckham and Isabella Rossellini.
