The beautiful moment Coldplay's Chris Martin played Charlie Brown on piano and sang for a woman who had cancer

Cardiff Coldplay fans got to be part of a poignant moment as the band’s frontman, Chris Martin, invited a woman up on stage to sing to her. She had been holding as sign which read: “This time last year I was in ICU with stage four cancer.”

The show on Thursday, June 7 was the second night Coldplay performed in Cardiff- and they have left fans amazed by their music yet again. And one of the most talked about few minutes came when a woman called Hannah was invited to sit next to Martin on the piano.

Her sign was made from A4 pieces of paper that had been taped together, which the singer was quick to pick up on. He said: “That’s a feat to itself. Look at that, it’s like Blue Peter.”

Martin read out her sign as the crowd cheered, and noted: “Looks like you beat that pretty well, right? Are you all better now?” The woman who had come on stage nodded, confirming that she was better and was also getting married.

Martin said: “What song would you like to hear, Hannah? You can choose anything. Do you know Coldplay, the band? If you could have any song right now apart from the obvious ones which we’re definitely going to play in about 10 minutes what might it be?”

Hannah requested to hear Charlie Brown, the third single released from the band’s fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto in 2011. Martin then invited her fiancée to join them on stage.

He said: “What’s your partner called? Charlie? That’s perfect. That’s perfect.”

Charlie could be seen by fans heading towards them quickly, while Martin refamiliarised himself with the melody on the piano. Once he arrived and sat beside them, Martin noted: “This is for Hannah and Charlie, celebrating Hannah being well, celebrating getting married, and you two are representing the whole crowd right now.” For the latest events news, sign up here to our What's On newsletter

The couple looked emotional, as he performed the whole song on piano - with the crowd joining in and waving their wristbands in the air. Afterwards, social media was buzzing with praise for the singer, and well wishes for the couple.

One person said on Twitter: “Charlie Brown on piano is maybe my favourite stripped down acoustic version of any song of theirs.”
