A 'huge' Beatles fan has become the new owner of a home where John Lennon once lived. The childhood house of The Beatles frontman, which reportedly played a significant role in the development of the world-famous band, sold at a recent auction for £279,000.
The auction house said that the winning bidder was UK-based and had purchased the property for their daughter who is a huge Beatles fan. The three-bedroom semi-detached house, located at 1 Blomfield Road, in Allerton, Liverpool, was owned by Lennon's mother Julia Lennon and was where John and Sir Paul McCartney would often practice together.
The house was remembered fondly by several of Lennon’s family members for its small size and was where Lennon and McCartney, who would become founding members of the Beatles, rehearsed with their bandmates in their first band The Quarrymen.

Lennon’s mother, Julia Lennon, was notoriously less strict than his Aunt Mimi, who John lived with more permanently, so the Bomfield house became a refuge for them to rehearse music without fear of noise complaints.
Lennon visited the home regularly while his mother lived there from 1950 until her death in 1958, along with husband John “Bobby” Dykins and the singer’s sisters Julia Baird and Jacqueline Dykins.
In her book Imagine This, Baird wrote of their mother: “I shall never forget the hilarious bathroom jam sessions she shared with the budding Beatles.
“The bathroom in our little house in Blomfield Road was probably one of the smallest in Britain.
“To see John, Paul, George, Pete Shotton, Ivan Vaughan, my mother and probably a couple of hangers-on scrambling around inside, trying to find a place to sit, was like a comedy act.
“They would be squeezed into the bath, perched on top of the loo seat, propped up against the handbasin, squatted on the floor, and standing with one leg up on the edge of the bath to support a guitar.
“Even getting the door closed was a feat. They sometimes went on for hours, letting rip into all those now classic tunes like Maggie May, Besame Mucho, Alleycat, and the theme music from The Third Man.”
The home was dubbed the “House of Sin” by John’s aunt Mimi, the auction house said.
The property was offered by music and entertainment specialists Omega Auctions, who previously sold a house that George Harrison lived in for £171,000 in a sale in November 2021.
Auctioneer Paul Fairweather said: “This is a significant property in the history of The Beatles, famously a sanctuary for John and Paul in their Quarrymen days to come and rehearse without fear of noise complaints and to listen to the Rock n Roll records that inspired them.
“We’re very pleased with the final selling price and are excited to see what plans the new owner has for the house.”
Mr Fairweather previously described the house as having “huge historical importance” and that there had been worldwide interest in both properties.
