The BBC and ITV jobs in Greater Manchester you can apply for now – including on Coronation Street

The BBC and ITV have advertised a host of exciting job opportunities in Greater Manchester, including working on Coronation Street. The broadcasters are looking to fill a variety of roles in several different sectors at their sites in Media City, Salford.

There are opportunities that are perfect for newcomers to the industry, as well as established professionals who may be looking for a new challenge. From roles in TV, marketing, IT and journalism, there is plenty on offer from two of the UK’s biggest media brands.

So, if you fancy working in the world of TV, radio or news, here are some of the roles with the BBC and ITV that you can apply for now:

Marketing Executive – Children’s and Charities – BBC

The BBC is looking to add a Marketing Executive to its Children’s and Charities team to help deliver strategic, creative and tactical marketing campaigns. The team works on some of the biggest and best brands in children’s entertainment, including Horrible Histories, the CBeebies Playtime Island app and BBC Children in Need.

The successful candidate will work with two Marketing Managers and a team of Marketing Executives to deliver and evaluate multi-media campaigns for a variety of brands across Children’s.

They will also work closely with other teams at the BBC – including Production, Scheduling, Social, and Interactive – to support the delivery of brilliantly creative campaigns that are on brand, on budget and on time.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the media/broadcast industry or an agency/similar business – ideally on brands that are enjoyed by pre-school or school aged children, teenagers or families. They should also be able to manage multimedia campaigns through each stage, from writing briefs to learning from their results.

This is a full-time role on a fixed term contract until January 30, 2024. It includes hybrid working, combining some home working with a base at Media City, Salford.

Camera Assistant – Coronation Street

ITV has an exciting opportunity to join the Coronation Street team as a member of its Camera Department. The successful candidate will work alongside Corrie’s camera crew to ensure efficiency and high-quality output during preparation, rehearsal or transmission of the show, either on set or location.

Responsibilities within this role include:

  • Rigging/de-rigging monitors, stage boxes, cables and cameras, patching, relocating and maintenance of cables to cameras and monitors.
  • Safe cable management, maintaining a safe working environment so avoiding slips and trips on cables.
  • General camera assisting – focusing, tracking – and making safe at the end of the day.
  • Managing use of batteries, media, time code, clapperboard etc. as required.
  • First line fault finding, repair and maintenance together with handling and reporting of faulty equipment to the technical support team.
  • Appropriate use, storage and transport of equipment to avoid damage or loss.
  • Marking artist positions on set and location.
  • Driving production vehicles as required subject to the relevant licences being held.

To be considered for this position, candidates must have experience of working in a technical role – such as a Technical Assistant or Camera Assistant – and basic understanding of camera and lens technology, lighting techniques and camera mountings. The ability to determine what makes a good shot and how camerawork enhances creative storytelling is also essential.

Candidates must have full colour vision – either corrected or uncorrected – and the ability to understand colour rendition and camera related technical issues, as well as a full, clean manual driving licence.

This is a full-time role on a 12-month fixed term contract.

Media Scheduler – BBC

BBC is looking for a Media Scheduler to take on the accurate scheduling of all spaces between scheduled programmes in line with the marketing, editorial and timely aims of the schedule.

Responsibilities within this role include:

  • Managing the scheduling and placement of digital inventory across the BBC, including video, audio and display.
  • Creating editorially sound and fit for purpose promotional plans.
  • Working and co-ordinating with various marketing colleagues/campaign planners to ensure online promotion is in line with wider campaign plans.
  • Managing unavoidable late changes to campaigns and schedules and being reactive to any other changes.
  • Monitoring and tracking campaign performance, optimising promos and campaigns on a daily basis while taking a proactive approach to performance changes.
  • Extracting, analysing and applying media research to provide thorough reporting and analysis of all digital inventory space.
  • Line managing an Assistant Media Scheduler, working closely to support them across all areas, including training/upskilling.

Candidates should have at least two years’ experience planning media/marketing campaigns across digital channels and the ability to use digital analytics platforms to analyse, interpret and present media data. A demonstrable understanding of the commercial broadcast marketplace and knowledge of broadcast audience scheduling and evaluation systems is also essential.

This is a full-time role on a 12-month fixed term contract.

Trainee Production Journalist – ITV

£26,329 per annum (£26,660 in London)

ITV has an opportunity for those looking to start a career in news by joining its ITV News Traineeship, with roles available across the UK, including at the Granada newsroom in Salford.

This is a nine-month programme starting in October 2023, with trainees working alongside the regional news teams as a trainee journalist, being taught all the skills needed to work in one of ITV’s multimedia news operations. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate a commitment to journalism, have great story ideas and ambition.

ITV is looking for those who have committed themselves to a career in journalism, either through writing, work experience, academic choices or their career so far. However, candidates looking for a career change and who can demonstrate a genuine interest in journalism are welcome to apply.

The development programme involves attending short periods of training in other parts of the country so candidates must be prepared to travel – ITV will provide accommodation and travel costs.

Software Engineers: Android and iOS: iPlayer Mobile – BBC

The BBC is looking for Software Engineers to join its iPlayer Mobile team to ensure the millions of daily iPlayer users receive an intuitive and engaging streaming experience.

Responsibilities within this role include:

  • Working closely with multi-disciplinary colleagues to break down product requirements into technical deliverables.
  • Helping deliver the technical implementation of product features as part of a pair/team.
  • Ensuring engineering output is fit for purpose and thoroughly tested.
  • Participating in the continuous improvement of the team through fast feedback loops.
  • Participating in knowledge sharing both within the team and across iPlayer more broadly.

The ideal candidate will have experience with Android or iOS and an understanding of app architecture and design idioms. They will be proficient in Kotlin/Java or Swift/Objective-C and have an understanding of OOP, analysis and decoupled design.

Experience with Continuous Integration/Deployment in mobile apps would be advantageous, as would web services integration – REST, JSON – in a mobile environment.

This is a full-time, permanent role located at Media City, Salford.

Record to Report Accountant – ITV

ITV’s Finance department is seeking a Record to Report Accountant to help support the preparation of accurate and timely management accounts on a monthly basis

Responsibilities within this role include:

  • Preparation and posting of journals.
  • Balance sheet and bank reconciliations.
  • Fixed asset accounting.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Payroll reconciliations.
  • Inter-company balance sheet and recharges.
  • Liaison with sub-ledgers in BSC and the wider finance teams.
  • Cashflow forecast.
  • Set up Projects, perform eventing on Projects, review and analyse Projects postings if required.
  • Assist in completion of Statutory Accounts.

Candidates must have or be studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualification, as well prior experience within an accounting position.

There may be occasions where the successful candidate will be required to have flexibility in their working hours to meet key deliverables due to a potential increase in workload during busy periods.

Freelance Producers, BBC Money and Work – News Content – BBC

The BBC is looking for freelance producers to join its Work and Money team in Salford. The team produces programmes for the World Service, Radio 4 and Radio 5 as well as making podcasts and the business news on BBC One Breakfast.

The broadcaster is creating a talent pool of freelance producers with a range of skills to work as part of the teams within the Work and Money unit in a variety of areas.

Duties within this role may include:

  • Booking and briefing guests.
  • Researching stories.
  • Writing briefs, audio or visual treatments.
  • Creating and overseeing running orders.
  • Gathering material in the field.
  • Working on outside broadcasts as well as contributing to the planning and origination of new angles and stories.

Experience in radio or TV production or in business and financial journalism is essential.

The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of the BBC’s editorial agenda, sharp production skills and the ability to respond to a fast-moving news environment. They will be expected to work across platforms and have an understanding of the different production methods and audience needs.

Candidates should be comfortable with technology and social media, and be able to quickly to pick up new skills and turn ideas into engaging coverage.

This is a 24-hour news operation so some shifts may involve working unsociable hours.
