The battle for the soul of music and the search for an antidote to AI-generated slop

I, robot: Singer Sienna Rose, who might not even exist -

Neo soul singer Sienna Rose is the full package. According to her Spotify credits, she writes, produces and performs all of her own songs. She looks straight out of the Sixties on her black and white album covers, but her sound seems to be inspired by Olivia Dean or Corinne Bailey Rae. “Every note she sings carries a sense of truth,” her artist’s bio insists.

Well, not quite. The internet now has it on rather good authority that Sienna Rose does not exist. The singer has no online footprint and many of her songs have been flagged as AI generated by the French streaming app Deezer. Her now-deleted early album covers depicted a red-headed white woman clutching an acoustic guitar. Now, she is a black woman with an afro.
