Who is cast in The Batman?

The upcoming DC Comics flick has a star-studded stellar cast as Robert Pattinson is set to take the reign as Bruce Wayne/Batman.

Zoe Kravitz, daughter of singer Lenny Kravitz, is set to play Selina Kyle/Catwoman alongside Robert.

Kravitz has said she wants her take on Catwoman to feel like she is playing a "real person", with depth and dimension in the film.

Andy Serkis, who previously worked with director Matt Reaves on The Planet of The Apes, is set to take on the role of Bruce Wayne's loyal butler Alfred.

Westworld and No Time To Die star Jeffery Wright will play Commissioner James Gordon, who has most recently been played by J.K Simmons and Gary Oldman.

Colin Farrell has fully transformed himself into Oswald Cobblepot, aka The Penguin, by working with prosthetic artist Mike Marino to rid himself of his own physical features.

Farrell raved about his transformation on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, via Collider : “When I saw what Mike did, the whole character made sense to me. I swear to God, I saw what he did, and I just went ‘OK,’ and I got really excited about it.

"All that to say that if anyone ever thinks what I do at ‘The Batman’ is a decent performance, I’ll gladly take 49% of the credits.”

Paul Dano is the main villain that Robert's Batman will be facing off again, as he plays The Riddler.

The Riddler is famed for being a 'camp' villain after portrayals by Jim Carrey, but director Matt Reaves has likened his portrayal of the famed villain to the Zodiac Killer.

What do we know about The Batman?

The Batman plot synopsis online reveals that we will see Gotham City's masked vigilante track down a killer after they leave cryptic clues at the scene of their crimes.

The clues reportedly lead Batman closer to home than he'd like, and he is left to "bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued the metropolis".

However, the cast have opened up in some interviews and given some hints at what is in store for comic book fans..

Serkis opened up on his role as Alfred to LADbible in May 2020 that The Batman will be “darker than previous” Gotham City-based films, and its pathos will be rooted in the relationship between Batman and Alfred.

“It’s very much about the emotional connection between Alfred and Bruce,” Serkis said.

Alfred has previously been played by Sir Michael Caine, Michael Gough, and Jeremy Irons and Serkis added: “It’s like playing these iconic roles in Shakespeare, you go back, you revisit them and you have to make it your own, and see what it is about he character that connects with you and your personal Venn diagram."

In a recent interview with British GQ Magazine, Pattinson opened up about the realities of taking on his new role, which filmed a lot of scenes in Glasgow across some iconic locations

Pattinson added : “I was really, really, really dead afterward. I looked at a photo of myself from April and I looked green.

“The nature of the shoot was so kind of insular, always shooting at night, and I felt very much alone.

"You’re not really allowed out of the studio with the suit on, so I barely knew what was going on at all outside.”

Still, at least he kept chipper on set as he got into character. “I have to really, really feel like I’ve hit rock bottom,” he tells GQ.

"Where right up until the moment I have to perform it’s ‘Wow, I’m the most empty piece of s***’.”

Laughing, the Twilight star added: "You have to feel the pain. And suddenly it’s like God gives you a little treat, ‘Here’s an idea you’ve never thought of before’."

Colin Farrell is confirmed to play The Penguin for the flick, but has already confirmed he won't have much screen-time, hinting that he will not be the main villain.

“I’m only in it for five or six scenes, so I can’t wait to see the film because it won’t be ruined by my presence,” Farrell joked.

“Really, it’s a freebie to me. I’ll get a little bit uncomfortable for the f-ing nine minutes I have, and then the rest of it, I cannot wait to see how he [Reeves] brought this world to life.”

Little Miss Sunshine star Dano discussed the new take on Batman with Empire at the end of last year, discussing the grounded portrayal of his character and the new spin on his costume.

He told the publication: “I liked how both grounded and big this film is at the same time, so there are some grounding forces like the Zodiac Killer, right?

"But it’s still The Batman, and for me it’s much bigger, so it was important to let my imagination react to the script, rather than strictly basing it on a serial killer."

When discussing his costume, Dano added: “The costume was very intense."

“I think the potential DIY element you’re talking about was actually scarier to me than the more sophisticated or composed designs we might have played with.

"I found working with the costume to be very powerful. When you put on something like that, there’s a way to let it speak to you, and tell your body something. There’s a way to let it have a life of its own.”

Where is it filmed in Scotland?

The Batman films in many iconic Glasgow locations, and many fans even speculated that Batman’s famous Batcave lair may even be located “under” the city’s graveyard.

Other locations include around Glasgow Cathedral and Glasgow Royal Infirmary. And Hartwood Psychiatric Hospital in Shotts will double up as Gotham’s orphanage.

Pattinson previously described Glasgow as a “brilliant Gotham.”

The star, 35, said: “It’s not at all surprising to me that Glasgow has become a sort of unofficial Gotham City. When you think of Gotham you think of a wonderfully Gothic city – and that’s why Glasgow works so well.”
