Three Industry stars, including Marisa Abela, are among the British actors nominated for the Bafta 2025 Rising Star award.
Abela’s nod comes after playing Amy Winehouse in Back to Black while her former co-star, David Jonsson, has also been recognised following a role in blockbuster Alien: Romulus.
Nabhaan Rizwan, who had a brief role in the first season of the HBO hit, which airs on the BBC in the UK, arrives after his leading role in Naqqash Khalid’s psychological drama In Camera.
Since Industry started in 2020, the drama about young graduates duking it out in the cutthroat world of financing has grown in popularity with each season.
The latest round of Bafta Rising Star nominations, which hails the stars of tomorrow, positions the series as a signifier of future talent – much in the same way Skins made stars of Nicholas Hoult, Dev Patel and Daniel Kaluuya back in the 2000s.
Previous winners of the Bafta Rising Star award include Lashana Lynch, James McAvoy, John Boyega and Tom Hardy.
Abela, 28, said she is “deeply honoured to be recognised by BAFTA and EE with a Rising Star nomination – and just as grateful to be alongside this year’s other incredibly talented nominees”.
Jonsson, 31, said of his nomination: “This is bonkers… Thank you BAFTA, EE and the wonderful jury for this nomination. As a young boy growing up in East London, I couldn’t think of an honour that’s more about the people, and proof that you can do it too. An absolute blessing and dream. Thank you, truly.”
After leaving Industry after one season, Rizwan won legions of fans earlier this year with the prematurely cancelled Netflix series Kaos, in which he shared the majority of scenes alongside Jeff Goldblum.
“To be named in this category is to stand on the shoulders of giants — an exceptional group of artists who remind us all to keep pushing the envelope,” Rizwan said of his nomination.
Also nominated in the 2025 category are Anora‘s Mikey Madison and When They See Us alum Jharrel Jerome .
Jerome, who is best known for his portrayal of Korey Wise in Ava DuVernay’s Netflix miniseries When They See Us, has been nominated following his portrayal of champion wrestler Anthony Robles, born with one leg, in forthcoming drama Unstoppable. He stars in the film alongside Jennifer Lopez.

The host for this year’s Bafta awards will be David Tennant, who will return for the second consecutive year.
