The Asda Christmas advert is here, and the star is Michael Bublé

Is it really that time again already? Yes, pop the bubbly, grab a mince pie and stick Slade on, because the starting gun for Christmas season is primed – with the teaser to Asda's Christmas advert dropping tomorrow.

Asda will reveal the first glimpse of its Christmas campaign, which stars none other than velvet-voiced crooner Michael Bublé as their flagship festive hero – and is directed by Taika Waititi. Did the pair get on? Apparently, swimmingly: there was quite a bromance on set.

The 60-second teaser sees Asda colleagues relaxing during their break, but as the clock ticks down to November 1, they start being disturbed by an ominous gurgling noise. What is it? They go on a hunt through a magical festival warehouse and find a door marked “MB inside. Do not open ‘til 1.11.23”.

When they do, they find none other than Bublé sitting inside, ready to start his job as Asda’s chief of festivities. And is It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas playing? You bet: when Bublé’s involved, it would be a crime not to.

What exactly will he be doing? Fans will have to wait until the full 90-second clip airs on November 4 to find out, but the Christmas-o-meter is already pinging off the charts.

“At Asda, we absolutely love Christmas and this year we’re once again on a mission to bring that warm, festive feeling to households across the UK,” David Hills, Asda’s chief customer officer, said about the ad.

“Today, we’re putting the speculation to rest and confirming that the legend that is Michael Bublé is partnering with us this Christmas to put on a showstopping performance.”

This season’s offering has a lot to live up to: the star of the Asda 2022 advert was none other than Buddy the Elf, aka Will Ferrell. Snippets of Ferrell’s performance as Buddy were digitally ‘cut out’ of the original Elf film and inserted into the Asda Christmas ad (with the full permission of the actor, naturally).

So let's see what they do with Bublé when the full cut of the ad lands on Friday.
