Newport Market will gain an exciting new bakery next month with a new shop announced by a Bristol-based cakemaker - and customers across south Wales will be able to order cakes for special occasions. ANNA Cake Couture has gained a reputation over its seven years in Bristol as a destination spot for fans of cupcakes, macarons and special occasion cakes. Now, the popular shop is opening a second branch in the newly refurbished Newport Market, which opened its doors on Thursday, March 17.
Anna, the founder of ANNA Cake Couture which has 78,000 followers on Instagram, said: "We were always looking for a second place. We were kind of looking in Cardiff - nothing was really happening but we saw the other independent restaurants going in to Newport Market, who were people that we know, so we thought this was a definite goer.

"We can't wait to open our doors and bring our much loved cakes, cupcakes, macarons and other sweet treats to south Wales. I’m so excited at the prospect of opening in a new area and having the opportunity to share our products with more customers."
Customers in the market can expect to buy ANNA's signature freshly baked gooey New York style cookies, a range of cupcakes and 12 flavours of hand-made macarons. The occasion cakes are especially eye-catching, covered in carefully-piped icing, biscuits, and delicate decorations - and the range includes vegan options, cakes for two and kids' cakes.
What makes ANNA Cake Couture special? Anna said: "We're independently run, everything we make is made by hand, we do a three-day turnaround for any occasion cakes and we haven't found anywhere else yet that does 'emergency cakes' that you can buy on the day, there and then.
"We also have 12 different macaron flavours every day - there's not so many other places who are so macaron-heavy!"
The new site will serve as a collection point for customers who have ordered these occasion cakes, meaning cake lovers further afield can make the journey to Newport to pick up their creations. The shop will open in Newport Market in early August, and you can follow the ANNA Instagram page for updates.
Anna said: "This is such an exciting time for the business and I’m really looking forward to watching it grow and develop further over the next couple of months and beyond!”
