Alfredo Morelos has been warned from inside the Everton camp that the "bigger issues" at the club can make life very difficult.
The ex-Rangers forward is enjoying downtime despite being at a career crossroads in the summer after he called time on his spell at Ibrox last month. The Colombian was a polarising figure in Scottish football but did hit over a century of goals during a six-year spell in Glasgow and will be fondly remembered for his role in the league title triumph over Celtic under Steven Gerrard and his contribution to the Gers' European exploits.
Morelos was linked heavily with switches to La Liga outfit Sevilla, clubs in Turkey and most recently the Toffees as Sean Dyche will look to bolster his side to avoid the harum-scarum relegation fight the Goodison side faced this season. The 27-year-old has a key decision to make once his relaxation ends, as he watched his ex-Ibrox pal Ryan Kent seal his next move to Fenerbahçe.
But from within the ranks on Merseyside, a potential pre-Everton warning has emerged from veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. The Bosnian has taken the clubs owner's to task for creating a "difficult" environment and a lot of "inconsistency" from the supremos. He revealed how his move in 2021 sparked some confusion among those in his circle before he realised the true nature of operations from within.
He told Talksport: “We obviously had some financial issues and a lot of inconsistency (with) people running the place so that makes it very difficult for the staff and the players. Certainly difficult. When I go back two years, people say: ‘Why in the world Everton?’ It’s easy to say now but at the time, you were looking at a fantastic football club with a fantastic group of players. When you get in there, you realise there are bigger issues.”
The Premier League have lobbied charges at the club for breaching profit and sustainability rules, as balance sheets in years gone by read more than £430million in losses. Three top chiefs including the chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale left the club in recent weeks.
