The Addams Family musical will lift curtain at Lanarkshire theatre for first time since pandemic

The opening night countdown is on for Eros Musical Society as they get ready to return to the stage for the first time since the pandemic.

That will see the amateur theatre group showcase their brand new production at East Kilbride Village Theatre over March 8-12 weekend.

A musical comedy take on The Addams Family , the decision to take on a full musical - with the significant expense incurred - was not taken lightly, say the club.

With the constantly changing circumstances regarding coronavirus, and the problems surrounding self-isolation, Eros took the decision early on to double-cast all principal roles.

Lesley Wilson, club vice-president, will play Addams Family matriarch Morticia - she told us : "We have missed this so much.

"It's really obvious how excited all the cast and chorus are at rehearsals. You can feel a real buzz in the room, and there is clearly a real benefit to everyone’s mental health.

"It has been over two years since we last performed on stage, with ' Sister Act ', which was very well received, and it’s great to get back to what we love to do.”

South Lanarkshire College make-up artistry department are also lending their expertise to help the cast master the unusual look of the characters in the Addams Family, who, Eros members say are all "fabulously funny" but also "very spooky looking indeed".

Maureen Driscoll, club president, said: “We are really pleased to get their help. The Addams Family has a unique stage look that is not what we usually strive for in our shows.

“For anyone coming along to see us, there is an extra positive. With two quite different casts, audiences can come along and compare the two – each one certainly provides its own unique flavour!

"It is a great show, with loads of laughs.

"We are really looking forward to it and are counting down the days now till March 8 - I can’t wait for opening night.”

Tickets are priced £18 for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, £20 for Saturday evening, and Saturday Matinee is £12.50 for children, £16 for adults.

Tickets are available online or by calling the box office on 01355 248 669.
