The Met Office has issued weather warnings for most of the country with people being warned to take care when heading out on the roads whether they are driving or taking public transport.
You should also take care if you're simply heading out for a few minutes or walking the dog as with the colder weather comes risk of dangers such as black ice.
This is quite common and isn't just isolated to the roads with black ice being found on driveways too.

The slippery black layer, according to the Daily Record, forms when water freezes and the ice often looks 'wet', but can be near-invisible as it creates the illusion of the pavement below. This means that many people may not see it and could cause serious injury should they slip on it.
Clearing snow and ice from your driveway and street can help prevent nasty slips, trips and falls as freezing temperatures plummet. However thankfully there's a quick and easy way to melt the pesky snow and ice using household ingredients which can be found in the kitchen cupboard - and it saves you heading to the shops and spending money on expensive products or chemicals.
The Department for Transport urges people not to use water to clear ice - as this can make conditions worse and turn to perilous black ice.
Instead, you should grab salt from the kitchen or raid the shed for sand to prevent slippery ice by spreading it over driveways and pavements. In this case, ordinary table or dishwasher salt does the trick - a tablespoon for each square metre you clear should work.
You can buy 750g of table salt for as little as 59p in the likes of Morrisons with it said to work in seconds.
People are being advised not to use the salt found in grit bins as this will be needed to keep the roads clear - unless the council advises otherwise. If you don't have enough salt, you can also use sand or ash. Whilst it won't stop the path icing over as effectively, it will provide good grip underfoot.
Pay extra attention to clearing snow and ice from steps and steep pathways - you might need to use more salt on these areas.
