The 5 best bets for Week 9

As we the turn the page into November, teams are losing more key players to injury, and some are already looking ahead to 2024. This week, we have two disappointing teams not scoring many points, two of the best quarterbacks driving their high Over/Under number past the total, two division leaders pushing their number Over, the worst team in the league starting a new losing streak, and a revenge play in Germany.

Washington Commanders at New England Patriots: Take UNDER 41 points (-110)

The Commanders have lost five of their last six games and waved the flag of surrender at the trade deadline. The Patriots are 2-6 and circling the drain. Both teams have surpassed this number more times than not, but this has the look of a Patriots-style ground-and-pound game. Neither team has been creating turnovers, so field position, long drives and field goals will rule the day.

Take Indianapolis Colts and lay 2.5 points (-110) at Carolina Panthers

The Colts have lost three straight and Minshew Mania hasn’t taken off. But, they have the combination of Jonathan Taylor and Zack Moss in their backfield. The number to note here is 4.7. Moss is averaging 4.7 yards a carry. Taylor is averaging 4.7 yards a carry. More importantly, the Panthers defense is allowing 4.7 yards a carry, including 14 rushing touchdowns. Taylor and Moss should both roll in this one.

3
Seattle Seahawks at Baltimore Ravens: Take OVER 44 points (-110)

Credit: Mitch Stringer-USA TODAY Sports

Both teams stand alone atop their divisions. The Seahawks have been inconsistent offensively, but have scored 24 points or more in four of their last six games. They can hold up their end of the bargain for the Over. The Ravens have scored 24 points or more in four of their last five, including 69 points in the last two weeks. It may take until late in the game to pass this number, but if one team has to start slinging the ball around, points will follow.

2
Buffalo Bills at Cincinnati Bengals: Take OVER 49.5 points (-110)

Credit: Kareem Elgazzar, The Enquirer

This is a big number, but you have two of the best quarterbacks in the league with loaded weapons around them. Buffalo has averaged almost 30 points over the last seven games, and the Bengals have scored 31 or more points in two of their last three games – all wins. There’s a recent history here – the Damar Hamlin tragedy giving both teams one fewer game for the No. 1 seed last year and Cincinnati’s playoff beatdown of the Bills. Josh Allen and Joe Burrow are ready to show why they’re MVP candidates. This could be a classic shootout.

1
Take Miami Dolphins on the moneyline (+105) vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Credit: Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

The Chiefs are 6-2 but haven’t been dominant. The Dolphins are 6-2 and have been dominant. Their only losses are on the road at Buffalo and Philadelphia – where road upset dreams go to die. If the Chiefs were actually the home team, they’d be the choice here, but this is a neutral-site game in Germany. The Dolphins took off ASAP this week to get there to acclimate themselves to the time change. The Chiefs came three days later. Throw in Tyreek Hill‘s first game against his old that never replaced him, the underdog barks (and bites).
