Fans of the cleaning influencer Mrs Hinch have been raving about a simple washing machine cleaning hack that costs just 4p to do.
Being such a commonly-used appliance, you should be taking the time to clean out your washing machine regularly. Over time, germs and mould can start to build up, which means your clothes won't be coming out as fresh and clean as they should be.
Thankfully, cleaning it doesn't have to be a long and painful process, as one woman has shared a trick that makes the whole thing "sparkling" after just a couple of minutes.
The Express reports that the woman shared her discovery on the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group, set up for like minded cleaning fans to share advice and solutions with each other.
She wrote: "So I’ve been seeing the trick about putting dishwasher tablets through your washing machine to clean the entire washer out, well I’ve just tried it.
"Just five minutes in and the water was already brown. Safe to say it works. My washing machine is now sparkling."
People were quick to flood the post with comments, with many echoing that the trick had worked well for them.
One person said: "Just started the wash cycle on my machine and within minutes I can see dirty water. Shocked and disgusted."
Another wrote: "Wow, just wow. I didn't think much would happen. Must admit I spent the whole wash just watching the water turn grey/brown. Top tip, I will be sharing."
And a third commented: "I have just tried using dishwasher tablets in the machine on a 90 wash and the black on the door rubber has disappeared, amazing."
A pack of 30 dishwasher tablets can be bought up from Asda for £1.34, working out at 4p per tablet.
This cleaning product can also be picked up from other major supermarkets, such as Sainsbury's and Tesco.
To use them to clean your washing machine once every three to six months, add a dishwasher tablet into an empty washing machine.
Then, with the door closed, add water through the detergent compartment until the level just exceeds the height of the lower edge of the hatch.
Alternatively, you can use dishwashing powder or first dissolve the tablets in warm water before adding them.
Then just set your machine to a temperature of 90 degrees, or the highest it’ll go to, and run the machine cycle.
