The 40 baby names at risk of 'extinction' in 2023 including Paige and Bradley

Having a newborn baby is both an exciting and anxious time, especially if it's your first child. On top of that, you've got to think of a name for your little one which can be a struggle.

Over the years, popular names for newborns have been influenced by pop culture, sports and celebrities.

Some names that were once popular have now been pushed to the bottom of the pile as parents completely disregard them, according to BabyCenter, a site that has been tracking baby names for the past 18 years, the Record reports.

Experts have identified the top 40 names that are at risk of "extinction" this year, as less and less parents are choosing them for their newborns.

For girls, Kate and Paige are no longer so popular. And in terms of boys, Bradley, Kyle and Steven have all fallen out of favour too.

This could be good news if you want to name your child something unique, as they could really be a standout in years to come.

A spokesman for BabyCenter said: "In general, it seems like boy names starting with the letter "K" are falling out of favour. Khalid, Kian, Kyle, and Kobe were all among those that fell significantly (between 138 and 60 spots) in the rankings from 2021 to 2022.

"For girls, Hayden was the name that fell the most, by a whopping 202 spots in the rankings. And in unfortunate news, the name Joy was also one of the hardest hit, falling 112 places."

Research by Pregnacare by Vitabiotics also identified the baby names on the brink of extinction this year. The top 40 names for boys and girls were revealed, as all of the monikers were only given to three newborns or less last year.
