Our Aussie Queen Nicole Kidman is back in Lioness as the badass CIA Senior Supervisor. (I want to be like her when I grow up.) If you haven’t watched this espionage thriller yet or are still trying to wrap your head around season one, I got you.

Lioness is based on the real-life women-only unit created by the US Marines. Dubbed the Lionesses, they were tasked with identifying women who could be terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In season one, we are introduced to Lioness Joe, played by Zoe Saldaña, who is forced to call an airstrike on her operator before she is tortured to death. We follow Joe as she leads a classified operation to gain the trust of a terrorist’s daughter. Joe’s boss, Kaitlyn Meade (played by our gal Nicole), mentors her as she’s torn between country and family.
We last left off with Joe’s protege Cruz (played by Laysla De Oliveira), telling Joe that she turned her into a monster — after killing the fiancée and father of the woman she loved (the terrorist’s daughter.) Joe then promises her husband that she’ll get a desk job after her daughter gets into a car accident.
Are you all caught up? Good — because here are the wildest moments from Lioness season two so far, available on Paramount+.
Spoilers for episodes one to five are below. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

1. The Los Tigres cartel kidnap a congresswoman
The Lioness unit uncovers a conspiracy around the kidnapping of a congresswoman. It turns out the Los Tigres cartel kidnapped her so the US would attack Mexico in retaliation. This would then distract NATO so China can invade Taiwan, which would benefit the cartel’s Chinese spy.
2. You know that cartel? The team hires the leader’s niece as a helicopter pilot
Well, that’s one way to keep your friends close and enemies closer. The team discover a helicopter pilot in the US Army — Josephina Carillo (Genesis Rodriguez) — is actually the cartel leader’s niece. They engineer for her to be discharged and transported to a top-secret US military base, ready to turn double agent. Talk about a Trojan horse.
3. Joe orders the niece to complete a hit on the Mexican police
Josephina refuses to follow Joe’s order to kill a Mexican police officer — at first. Joe demands that she follow orders, and Josephina ultimately carries out the hit order to prove she’s not a mole. It’s up to you to put together the pieces on why the kill order was placed, but I’ll give you a hint: the cartel.
4. A drug trafficking ring takes a sinister turn
The team bust a Mexican warehouse expecting to find drugs and instead stumbles upon the largest child trafficking ring in history. Even worse? The team can’t save them, but Joe puts a tracker in a young girl’s shoe. I’m going to need the final episodes soon so I can get closure.
I won’t spoil any more plot points, but let’s say you’ll be on the edge of your seat for season two of Lioness on Paramount+.
