The 228 Premier League and Championship stars who just became free agents who Cardiff City and Swansea City could sign

The last day of June traditionally signals the end of footballers' contracts.

So yesterday a number of players effectively became free agents.

Cardiff City and Swansea City will be shopping in that market this summer, with the former unable to pay fees for signings right now due to a transfer embargo, while the latter will be aiming to conduct shrewd business on a budget.

Both teams are close to making new acquisitions; the Bluebirds expect to have two signings at their friendly match against The New Saints on Tuesday night, while Swansea are closing in on the capture of Josh Ginnelly on a free transfer from Hearts.

Our colleagues at Manchester Evening News have collated a list of the 228 Premier League and Championship players who have just become free agents. Some will be way out of the reach of the Welsh clubs but others could be of interest....
