The 1975's Matt Healy makes savage dig at Rage Against The Machine during Leeds Festival set

The 1975’s Matt Healy addressed the elephant in the room when he paid a sweary tribute to Rage Against The Machine.

Those at Brahman Park will likely know The 1975 were last minute additions to the Leeds Festival 2022 after Rage were forced to pull out. They were supposed to be headlining at Bramham Park alongside Arctic Monkeys, Dave and Megan Thee Stallion.

They have pulled their European tour performances after frontman Zack de la Rocha injured his leg mid-performance in Chicago during a recent gig. The 1975’s last-minute booking as a replacement certainly got people talking.

Lead singer Matt Healy couldn’t help but make reference to this during their Leeds Fest headline set. He said: "We are The 1975 from down the road. This is the most hometown show that we have. Seventeen of the past 20 years I have been stood here with you guys so this means so f******* much to me that you guys are here right now.

"And I'm sorry we're not Rage Against The Machine but who's Rage Against The Machine?" This question prompted some boos from the crowd, before Matt added: "I mean give it up for the greatest rock band of the previous generation, ladies and gentlemen please.

"Being literally in Rage Against The Machine and having a gammy leg is quite funny though. We're The 1975 so we're just going to be The 1975 as much as we can. We weren't even supposed to do this we were going to come on tour and see you guys and do specific stuff but we thought 'f*** it, we'll do a greatest hits set to start out our campaign'."
