A LEGO super fan has his sights set on a career in design after triumphing at a LEGO creator’s competition.
Luke Harrison, 13, beat over 600 other entrants to be crowned the best in the North West.
The victory means Luke is one brick closer to the national title and his dream job of being a LEGO set designer, working on the brand’s builds across the world.
Luke’s mum said her son has been a huge fan of the model brick brand since he was five years old, and has had his sights set on a career with LEGO since primary school.
“This is hopefully a stepping stone to taking his talent further and ideally he would love to be a LEGO set designer or to work within LEGO.
She added: “He would love to one day hopefully meet Alec the Global Master Builder from America and get some LEGO tips and advice from him to help improve his skills and techniques.”
Luke constructed a mythical sea scene for semi-final entry, which showcased his skills and ultimately attracted the top bosses. Luke said: “I was really happy to have won the semi-final with my entry which I named, ‘The Battle of Honour.’
“It’s a knight fighting a mythical sea beast. I really like medieval and magical themes so wanted to create a LEGO design based around this.”
Teenager Luke’s regional win at the LEGOLAND Discovery Centre at the Trafford Centre means he will now compete in the national final.
He will take on 12-year-old Harry Hill, who was victorious at the Birmingham centre, to be crowned best in the UK. Both boys will be challenged to create a build that showcases their local city of either Manchester or Birmingham.
When asked about his build for the final, Luke was eager to keep his last creation a surprise.
Luke, from Silloth in Cumbria, said: “I’m still finessing my idea for my final build, but I’m really excited to centre it around Manchester. Who knows, maybe I’ll give the city a medieval twist.”
Luke’s mum also promised that her son’s final build was shaping up to be even more extravagant than his previous ones.
She said: “We think his build is amazing and the talent he has is brilliant. To come up with the design and concept he did and how he managed to build all the different aspects from scratch and his mind to create the shapes and detail he put into his build is awesome.”
Judges from both Legoland Discover Centres and the Global Master Model Builder will have the final decision on who will be crowned the UK’s Mini Master Model Builder.
The overall winner of the Mini Master Model Builder will be announced on both LEGOLAND Discovery Centre’s social media channels.
