‘That’s So Raven,’ ‘Medium’ and other shows about psychics to check out after ‘Maggie’

Rebecca Rittenhouse can see her future in the Hulu show “Maggie,” but she’s not the first psychic to be portrayed on TV. Here are a few others — real or fake — who already glimpsed their own fate.

“That’s So Raven”: Like Maggie, Raven Baxter really could see the future and her confused vision face proved it. But the hit Disney Channel show relied on Raven’s inability to properly interpret what she saw and the high jinks she and friends got into to stop whatever was coming.

“Shut Eye”: The short-lived “Shut Eye” brought something new to the psychic market: Gypsies. Charlie Haverford (Jeffrey Donovan) made a living as a fake psychic, working under a Romani family that operated more like a mob, before his visions suddenly became real.

“Psych”: Buddy cops never had it so good as a consultant who pretends to be psychic (James Roday) and his childhood best friend along for the ride (Dule Hill).

“Medium”: Psychic visions are a family affair in “Medium,” as the gift is passed down from Allison DuBois (Patricia Arquette) to her three daughters. Because Hollywood psychics apparently aren’t all that creative – or maybe they’re just more civically minded – Allison uses her powers to solve crimes.

“The Mentalist”: Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) wasn’t actually a psychic; he just paid attention to his surroundings, which is a superpower in and of itself. After a lucrative career as a conman, he finally uses his powers for good to hunt down Red John, a serial killer who murdered his wife and daughter.

“iZombie”: Before she was talking to ghosts on, well, “Ghosts,” Rose McIver was pretending to be psychic on Rob Thomas’ “iZombie.” Instead, her medical examiner character was actually a zombie who inherited the memories and personalities of the people whose brains she ate (only after they were dead, obviously).
