‘That’s it. I want a King’: Laura Loomer dreams of fascism because it’s the only way someone like her could even pretend to matter

Laura Loomer has finally shed all her snake skin and exposed her real, fascist self. She publicly admitted that she wants a monarchy in the United States, a country that fought hard to be democratic.

There’s an intellectual difference between being funny and being disrespectful. Unfortunately, Laura Loomer has always struggled between the two. But this time, her disrespect wasn’t towards an individual or a group. She crossed all lines and dishonored the very foundation of the United States: its democracy. To think that she was calling for the arrest of democrats just days ago for treason, it’s shocking.

On Wednesday, Nov. 26, the “die-hard” Trump supporter, in her own words, declared, “I want a King” on X. Her post came after two West Virginia National Guardsmen were shot dead in Washington, DC by a 29-year-old Afghan national. Her immediate response to the news was: “I hope the killer is tortured on live television and then given the death penalty via firing squad.” And then, she declared that she wants a King’s rule.

The “That’s it” in her post was likely intended to express her frustration over the news. But this grown adult thought the best way to vent her anger was to call for the end of democracy. To think that a 32-year-old thought it was a perfectly logical response is alarming. An hour before posting this, she also wrote:

When are we going to be the dictators the Left accuses us of being? That’s what I want to know.

Laura Loomer is probably inspired by Trump’s “King” posts

Nobody but the Trump administration is responsible for enabling people to behave so contemptuously. Instead of upholding the country’s democratic values and respecting the Constitution, MAGA supporters have begun putting Trump above all. And it all circles back to Trump’s own behavior.

The president has repeatedly tried to position himself as a “King,” most infamously during the nationwide No Kings protests. Not even a week ago, he again shared an AI-generated picture of himself as a Warhammer 40k God-Emperor. While the president might think it’s all a joke, the result of his nonchalance is people like Laura Loomer.

But Loomer is a step ahead of even Trump. After her fascist post, she went on several Islamophobic rants. “This is what happens when you don’t expel Islam from your country,” she wrote. Instead of holding the shooter accountable for his crime, she immediately declared, “Islam is a national security threat.”

If Loomer intends to challenge political narratives, she should know that authoritarian rhetoric does not offer any meaningful solutions. Likewise, if she wants to address terrorism, she should understand that stigmatizing entire communities exacerbates, not resolves, the issue.
