'That's annoying' - RB Leipzig boss Domenico Tedesco makes Liverpool admission after friendly

RB Leipzig boss Domenico Tedesco has admitted his side couldn't cope with Liverpool in Thursday's friendly at the Red Bull Arena.

Roberto Firmino looked fresh and back to full sharpness as he set up Mohamed Salah for the opening goal in Germany before Darwin Nunez entered the action at half-time and opened his account from the spot just a minute later. He went on to score three more times as the Reds ran out 5-0 winners in the pre-season friendly.

Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho also lit up the field after they were introduced by Jurgen Klopp as the young duo fight hard for a place in Liverpool's starting XI against their former club Fulham at Craven Cottage at the start of August.

“You don’t need to talk about Liverpool’s strength. We knew that in advance. Basically, we conceded four own goals. That’s annoying,” said Tedesco to RB Live. "You saw how Liverpool play: extremely experienced. They play under pressure when you press them high, two or three touches.

"That has something to do with maturity and with cleverness. They win the second balls and then football is played in the final third. We, on the other hand, got into trouble far too often. Too many mistakes. We can learn from the 0-5. Maybe it’s an eye-opener. Nevertheless, I would have liked to have done without it.”

Leipzig captain Willi Orban offered his views on the match, too. He said: “The result was very clear. We shouldn’t have lost by so much. We were too naïve in parts of the game (and) made a lot of very, very simple mistakes that are punished at the level.

“The defeat doesn’t feel nice – especially at home – but I hope we learn from it.”
