Thank you, London! Standard’s Winter Survival Appeal hits £2.4million - The Standard podcast

The total raised by the Evening Standard’s Winter Survival Appeal in partnership with Comic Relief has swelled to £2.4 million - thanks to a final surge in public donations to £200,000.

Plus, £1,250,000 has already been given out in grants to charities helping the most vulnerable people struggling with the cost of living in London and across the country.

With one million children in extreme poverty and at severe risk of being inadequately fed, clothed or kept warm this winter, the funds raised have been hailed by struggling charities and parents as a lifesaver, providing food and essentials to families in crisis.

You can hear much more about some of the 20 outstanding charities and social enterprises being funded in this episode.

The campaign’s success follows huge support from the public, who have dug deep to help out, plus our high-value donors, after the fund was kicked off with a £500,000 donation from our campaign partner Comic Relief.

It’s been an incredible team effort by Evening Standard colleagues, involving the whole news team — print, online, ES Magazine, our film, podcast and social media teams.

In all, the money raised marks the biggest disbursement to charities raised by a British news group this year in response to the cost-of-living crisis.

To hear more about the huge support for Winter Survival Appeal, the excellent work of charity beneficiaries and the stars who supported us, we’re joined for this special episode of the Standard podcast by our campaigns editor David Cohen.
