Thai Woman Rescued After Python Strangles Her For Hours

64-year-old Thai woman bitten and wrapped by python in Bangkok home.

A 64-year-old Thai woman, identified as Arom, had a terrifying encounter with a python at her home on the outskirts of Bangkok. While doing the dishes, she was bitten by the snake, which then proceeded to wrap itself around her, causing her to fall to the ground. Despite her efforts, she was unable to free herself from the python's grip for more than two hours.

After hearing her cries for help, a neighbor alerted the police, who arrived at the scene to find Arom trapped on the floor with the python coiled around her waist. It took rescuers approximately 30 minutes to release her from the snake's hold before she was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Thailand, known for its diverse snake population, is home to various python species, including the reticulated, Burmese, and Blood pythons. While pythons are not venomous, they use constriction to subdue their prey by cutting off blood flow.

According to official reports, Thailand sees around 12,000 cases of venomous snake and animal bites annually, resulting in 26 fatalities last year. This incident involving Arom is the latest in a series of snake-related incidents in the country, following a recent case where a man had his testicle bitten by a python in a bathroom.

Despite the challenges posed by encounters with snakes, quick thinking and timely intervention have proven crucial in ensuring the safety of individuals facing such situations. The resilience displayed by Arom and the swift response of the authorities highlight the importance of awareness and preparedness in dealing with wildlife encounters.
