A man who bombarded his former partner with threatening phone calls and text messages after a fall-out over his drinking has been ordered to stay away from her for a year.
Perth Sheriff Court was told last Wednesday Paul Scobie (51) turned up at his girlfriend’s house at around 6am “under the influence” then left shortly afterwards following an argument.
Fiscal depute Emma Farmer said Scobie, of Strathtay Road, Perth, then started making threats towards the woman using his mobile phone at around 8.30pm the same evening.
“The complainer received numerous threatening phone calls and 50 text messages from his mobile,” she said.
“The threats were to the extent he was going to cause as much damage as possible to the complainer’s home.
“He called her a f***ing whore and said that he was going to hammer a bike.”
Defence solicitor Paul Ralph told the court the message about damaging the bike was an indication of “how coherent” Scobie was at the time.
Scobie pled guilty to a charge of sending messages and making phone calls to the woman on August 1 last year in which he repeatedly uttered offensive remarks and threats.
He also pled guilty to a second charge of failing to comply with a previous order not to approach or contact the woman.
Sheriff Euan Duthie sentenced Scobie to a community payback order under which he must complete 60 hours of unpaid work and be supervised for 12 months. He also renewed the order for Scobie not to approach or contact the woman nor attempt to for another year.
