YOU’VE heard of breaking up by text – but what about resigning?
It’s considered bad form – especially if the role you’re leaving is that of the head of government – but sometimes it’s just unavoidable.
The Jouker understands the outgoing First Minister won’t get a chance to meet King Charles when she packs it in for good on Monday – because he is on an official visit to France from Sunday until the middle of next week.
The visit is leaving a bad taste in the mouths of the French (not really known for their love of the divine right of kings at the best of times).
There is no requirement for the FM to meet the King to formally tender their resignation. The Scotland Act merely requires them to "tender his resignation to Her Majesty [showing its age]".
It is the convention for the prime minister to do so and both Liz Truss and Boris Johnson met with the Queen last year before officially leaving office.
But it is not thought the First Minister plans to travel to France (amid rioting over the President’s hated plans to raise the retirement age) for a meeting confirming what everyone already knew.
The Jouker has asked Sturgeon’s spokesperson whether she intends to let Charles know she’s off with a call or a WhatsApp…
