On Friday, a Texas woman named Christina Montoya was arrested in Washington, D.C., for allegedly making threats against former President Trump and illegally carrying a firearm. The arrest came after the Secret Service notified the Metropolitan Police Department about Montoya's activities.
Following an investigation, the 41-year-old woman from San Antonio, TX, was charged with Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, and Threats Against a Former President. Authorities revealed that Montoya's threats against Trump began on July 20.
During the arrest, police found a Smith and Wesson M&P Shield pistol, a magazine, and a gun lock in Montoya's vehicle. This incident occurred shortly after Thomas Matthew Crooks attempted to assassinate Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Fortunately, Trump narrowly escaped the attack, sustaining a bullet wound to his ear.
The assassination attempt has sparked investigations by the FBI, the Secret Service, and Congress. Former Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned following a contentious hearing where members from both political parties demanded her removal. Questions have been raised about the security perimeter and the building Crooks used as a vantage point to target the former president.
