Texas will start QB Arch Manning vs. Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday

The Texas Longhorns will start redshirt freshman quarterback Arch Manning against the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks on Saturday, coach Steve Sarkisian announced Thursday.

Manning, 19, played well last week after replacing an injured Quinn Ewers against the UTSA Roadrunners. Ewers left the game with an abdominal injury in the second quarter after helping Texas build a 14-0 lead.

Arch then entered the game and scored five touchdowns — four passing and one rushing — in an eventual 56-7 win.

Now, with Ewers still recovering, the Longhorns (3-0) are set to start Arch when they host Louisiana-Monroe (2-0) at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday. It will mark the first start of Arch’s college career.

In two appearances this season, Manning has completed 77.8% of his passes for 318 yards with five touchdowns against zero interceptions. He has also rushed six times for 53 yards and two touchdowns.

Arch is the son of Cooper Manning, who is the older brother of former NFL quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Eli Manning. Cooper was a star wide receiver in high school but his football career was cut short by spinal stenosis before college.

A new Manning era will begin on Saturday when UT hosts ULM at 6:00 p.m. The game will broadcast on SEC Network Plus and on ESPN+.
