The Houston Texans don’t need a running back. They have Dameon Pierce.
The former Florida product took over as the bell cow for the Texans’ offense from Opening Day in 2022. The fourth-rounder finished with 939 yards and four touchdowns all through 13 games. New coach DeMeco Ryans even stated that Pierce fits the style of play the Texans will emobdy in 2023.
However, Texas running back Bijan Robinson ran with the possibilities of what it would be like if he were paired with Pierce on the Texans.
“He’s done it right, his first year in the NFL,” Robinson told the Texans Wire’s Brian Barefield. “I respect his game a lot. If that’s the case, I’m going to go in there and learn as much as I can behind him. Obviously I’m going to compete, compete my butt off to make him a better player, for him to make me a better player. So, I think it would be a smooth transition to play with somebody like that.”

Robinson did make an interesting pitch for why it would behoove the Texans to take him and have a two-headed monster in new offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik’s backfield.
“I think it’s important to have two running backs that can complement each other,” said Robinson. “I think you last longer in the league if that’s the case. He’s a great player, but if that’s the case, then I’m all for it.”
The Texans have six picks in the top-103 of the draft, and Robinson is slated to go anywhere from the middle of the first round through the second round. Houston would have to give up decent draft capital for the notion of having a two-pronged rushing attack in an era built around the passing game. Nevertheless it would be a run game fantasy to have Pierce and Robinson in the same backfield.
