NCAA Tournament Star Max Abmas Officially Transfers to Big 12 Power for Fifth Season

Texas officially announced on social media they landed point guard Max Abmas via the transfer portal.

Abmas began his college career at Oral Roberts and spent four years with the Golden Eagles. The point guard started 123 games since 2019 and averaged at least 21.9 points per games in each of the last three seasons. Abmas is a three-time member of the first team All-Summit League, and was the 2022–23 Summit League Player of the Year.

Abmas is best known for helping lead Oral Roberts to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2021 NCAA tournament. As a 15-seed, that Oral Roberts team upset No. 2 Ohio State and No. 7 Florida, and fell just short of beating No. 3 Arkansas on the second weekend.

This past season, Oral Roberts lost to Duke in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 12 seed.

With one year left of eligibility, Abmas joins a Texas team coming off a Big 12 Championship and Elite Eight appearance. The Longhorns are entering their first season with Rodney Terry as the full-time head coach after he finished last year as the interim.
