Texas Insider Details Arch Manning’s Impressive Development During Freshman Year

Texas quarterback Arch Manning’s time as a starter has yet to arrive, but the touted freshman’s reported progress with the 2023 season coming to an end could be a sign of things to come.

After spending the season learning the playbook as the Longhorns’s third-string QB, Manning has reportedly made great strides, having now improved “to the point where he can run the entire offense,” per Rivals.com’s Anwar Richardson.

Manning’s development has also seen the 6’4” signal-caller jump from 210 pounds upon his arrival in January to 225 pounds of “all muscle,” according to Richardson.

As the backup to Quinn Ewers and Maalik Murphy, Manning has seen limited action in his first collegiate season, with his lone appearance coming Nov. 24 in the third quarter of Texas’s 57–7 romp of Texas Tech. And, while the QB has shown flashes, Friday’s update will likely excite eager Longhorns fans even more ahead of 2024.

Entering the College Football Playoff, Manning will remain an intriguing, potential successor. But, in the short term, all eyes will remain on the starter Ewers with No. 3 Texas facing No. 2 Washington on Jan. 1.
