Texas Governor Greg Abbott declares state of emergency at border

Texas Governor Greg Abbott accuses President Biden of dereliction of duty.

In a recent statement, Texas Governor Greg Abbott expressed concerns regarding the enforcement of federal immigration laws by the Biden administration, accusing President Joe Biden of violating his constitutional oath. Governor Abbott declared that Texas has the right to defend itself against invasion and announced his intention to exercise the full and total power of the state to protect its borders.

Citing the influx of illegal immigrants and cartel smuggling across the Texas-Mexico border, Governor Abbott criticized the federal government for neglecting its responsibilities to secure the nation's borders. He argued that the current situation poses a threat to the safety and security of Texans, likening the lack of action by the Biden administration to a breach of trust between the federal government and the states.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz also voiced his opposition to a potential Senate agreement on border security that would allow for up to 5,000 illegal crossings per day. Senator Cruz called the initial details of the agreement 'completely unacceptable' and compared negotiating with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on border security to an unrealistic scenario with dire consequences.

In a concerning development, Border Patrol reported the arrest of a La Lina cartel operative who illegally crossed into El Paso. The individual has been linked to more than 40 illegal entries over the past two years, highlighting the ongoing challenges of combating criminal organizations involved in smuggling activities. The chief of U.S. Border Patrol expressed hope that the courts will impose maximum sentences on such individuals.

Meanwhile, there have been allegations of voter fraud in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Evidence presented by a local election official, Wanda Gomes, suggested irregularities in the issuance of absentee ballot applications, including cases of distribution to unauthorized campaign workers and ballots being cast by deceased individuals. The Secretary of State acknowledged the concerns raised and questioned the security of absentee voting, hinting at the potential necessity of voting in person instead.

Amidst these allegations, it is noteworthy that election officials across the country were urged to ensure safe and secure elections in 2024. However, the situation in Bridgeport raises doubts about the effectiveness of the measures taken so far. Voter fraud allegations have previously been reported in Bridgeport, with the issue gaining attention from various media outlets.

As debates surrounding immigration and election integrity continue, it remains to be seen how the respective authorities will address these concerns and ensure the security and legitimacy of both borders and elections.
