Deep in the woods near Vidor, Texas, an artist once built a domed cathedral from repurposed bottles, cans and cement. That artist, Charlie Stagg, spent decades adding to it by hand, and the building became known as the Glass Bottle House. Stagg was also a sculptor, painter, draughtsman and architect whose spiralling works have been shown in museums and art installations around the world. According to the City of Vidor, he called the town home for more than thirty years. His home and studio have been described by a Texas art publication as one of East Texas' best-kept secrets. The unusual structure reflected Stagg’s belief in transforming everyday materials into something imaginative and enduring.
