The Houston Texans went with a defensive lineman to help out new coach Lovie Smith’s Tampa 2 scheme.
The Texans selected former Stanford defensive end Thomas Booker with the No. 150 overall pick in Round 5 of the 2022 NFL draft Saturday.
Booker has some familiarity with the Texans already, having played with presumptive starting quarterback Davis Mills in college at Stanford.
Booker generated 59 combined tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, and a pass breakup through 12 games.
The Texans have a solid starter along the edge in former 2020 third-round pick Jonathan Greenard, who led the team with 8.0 sacks last season. Houston adds another edge defender in Booker.
