The Houston Texans weren’t able to hang on to their 9-6 fourth quarter lead against the Denver Broncos Sunday.
The home side prevailed and handed the Texans their first loss of the season, 16-9, at Empower Field at Mile High.
Safety Jonathan Owens led the Texans with 10 combined tackles. In fact, pending the results of Monday night’s doubleheader, Owens is the NFL’s leader in tackles with 25 through the first two weeks.
Owens joined Texans Radio Network sideline reporter John Harris after the loss to talk about the game, where Houston needs to improve, and what went well for them despite leaving Denver with an 0-1-1 record.
How big were the drives where you stopped the Broncos in the red zone?
“It was big,” Owens said. “Whenever they get in the red zone and hold them to three, just give the offense a chance. Just got to finish. That’s the biggest thing. So, got to get back and go to work this week and prepare for the Bears.”
How big was the Christian Kirksey interception to turn the momentum back your way?
“It was amazing, the burst of energy for the whole team,” Owens said. “That’s what we preach as a defense and just get turnovers, turnovers, and first drive out of the half. It was a big momentum swing for us.”
What's the big emphasis to turn it around for the Chicago Bears?
“Just watch the film, clean it up, and just move on, just turn the page,” said Owens. “It’s all you can do. This is going to sting definitely because close games always hurt. So, you just got to go back and prepare for the best.”
