The Houston Texans took a few major injury hits this week in a 30-6 loss to the New York Jets.
Not only was wideout Nico Collins knocked out of the game early with a calf injury, but quarterback C.J. Stroud left with 6:43 in the fourth quarter with a concussion and didn’t return. The star rookie passer is now in the NFL’s concussion protocol and his status for Week 15 is up in the air.
“Yes, C.J. will be in concussion protocol,” Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans said after the game, “we’ll see how he progresses throughout the week.”
Backup quarterback Davis Mills played eight snaps for the injured Stroud but couldn’t muster much offense with the game effectively decided. He completed 1-of-5 passing attempts for four yards and was sacked once.
Stroud’s availability could greatly affect Houston’s playoff chances. And loss to the Jets hurt the Texans’ hopes even more because of their conference record. At 7-6, Houston fell outside the playoff field but still has four AFC opponents left.
The hope for Stroud is he can clear the protocol ahead of Week 15 against the Tennessee Titans. If he can’t it will be Mills once more with an even more depleted offense at his disposal.
