Texans improve to No. 29 in Touchdown Wire NFL power rankings

The Houston Texans are no longer the worst team in the NFL.

According to Mark Lane from the Touchdown Wire, following the results of Week 5, the Texans’ 13-6 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars combined with the Carolina Panthers firing Matt Rhule was enough to propel them to No. 29 in the latest power rankings.

Last week: No. 32

There is nothing easy for the Texans. Even their win over the Jacksonville Jaguars was a hard-fought slobber knocker where the first team that scored a touchdown won. At last the Texans were able to close out a game, but this low-scoring formula doesn’t bode well for the rest of their schedule. Bring on the bye.

What the Texans showed, regardless of the low-scoring affair, was that they can close out games in the fourth quarter on the road. The Jaguars game had some of the same themes as Week 2 against the Denver Broncos and Week 3 against the Chicago Bears. Houston closed out. Now, offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton will have to figure out over the bye week how to improve the scoring.

Around the rest of the AFC South, the Jaguars paid the price for their loss to the Texans by dropping to No. 20. The Indianapolis Colts improved to No. 15. The Tennessee Titans cracked the top-10 with a No. 8 spot in the rankings.
