Rain forced the Houston Texans to take a detour inside the bubble Wednesday afternoon during minicamp. If not, perhaps the wind would have factored into C.J. Stroud’s passing trajectory.
Then again, it didn’t matter since second-round pick Kamari Lassiter was there to make sure passes hit the turf as much as they hit a receiver’s hand. Countless times in man coverage, Lassiter was living up to his ‘Locksmith’ persona while shutting down John Metchie III.
Then Stefon Diggs.
Then Tank Dell.
“What I have seen from Kamari, is a guy that has been locked in since day one that he has gotten here he has been locked in,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said Wedensday after practice. “He has done everything we have asked him to do. Kamari is a guy that doesn’t make the same mistake twice.”
The No. 42 overall pick should start Week 1 when Houston returns to Indianapolis for a match against the Colts. The question is where he best fits. Both Ryans and GM Nick Caserio said they envision Lassiter seeing reps at both nickel on the perimeter.
During 7-on-7 drills Tuesday afternoon, Lassiter played the opposite of third-year corner Derek Stingley Jr. It was more of the same in the bubble on Wednesday during team drills.
“I am excited to see where he is trending, he is trending in the right direction, and I am excited to see how he comes back and where he starts in training camp,” said Ryans.
On top of Lassiter proving his value as the Texans’ first pick in April’s draft, here are several observations from other media members in attendance following Wednesday’s minicamp practice:
