Tesla CEO Elon Musk Confesses to a Surprising Love

When one compiles a list of the world's best dressed men, Elon Musk's name probably won't be on it.

His resume is undoubtedly impressive. The richest man on Earth, Musk is chief executive of Tesla (TSLA) -), the world's largest electric-vehicle maker; the self-described Chief Twit at Twitter, founder and CEO of rocket-tech provider SpaceX,  and founder of the infrastructure-services provider Boring Co.

Oh, and there's also Neuralink, which is developing implantable brain–computer interfaces.

So if the guy doesn't exactly have the gift of garb, who are we to complain?

He's certainly a notch above Meta's (META) -) Mark Zuckerberg, who seems to have a closet full of one outfit. He just doesn't go for the whole traditional corporate-dark-suit routine.

Musk, 52, who has been known to sport a cowboy hat, took to Twitter recently to share his feelings about nice duds.

"Must confess to a deep love of fashion & architecture," he tweeted on July 5.

Now as far architecture is concerned, Musk is reportedly looking to build his own town in Texas in which his employees could live and work, so he's got that part covered.

But the Twitterati seemed more interested in his clothes.

"How's this?" one person responded, posting an image of Musk wearing a fur coat and shades..

'"Do you still own this? Such a badass jacket." another poster tweeted, adding a photo of Musk wearing a leather jacket.

"Those boots are so on point, too!," one response read.

This wasn't the first time that Musk acknowledged his admiration for attire.

"I love fashion,” Musk said, GQ reported in December. "I do, actually. Sometimes it’s viewed as frivolous and maybe not that important, but I think beauty is very important, and style, and things that move the heart.”

The GQ article noted that many big-time tech types have aligned themselves with the fashion world, including Apple's (AAPL) -) Steve Jobs, who asked Japanese fashion designed Issey Miyake to make him a subtle black turtleneck for everyday use,

And Zuckerberg's gray t-shirts were made by Brunello Cucinelli, the Italian luxury creative director and so-called philosopher-designer.

GQ noted in 2019 that Cucinelli met with such tech leaders as Amazon’s (AMZN) -) Jeff Bezos and LinkedIn's (MSFT) -) co-founder Reid Hoffman.

When he hosted Saturday Night Live in 2021, Musk wore one of Matthew M. Williams's Givenchy designs in the form of a black two-piece wool suit with a crewneck t-shirt.

“A grueling night from start to finish" is how The Guardian described the show at the time. "This will go down as one of SNL’s worst episodes ever."

The review went on to say that "it would be wrong to lay the blame entirely at Musk’s feet," noting that "his awfulness mostly served to highlight the much deeper weaknesses of the cast and the writing."

But at least Elon looked good.
