Tesco's one-month warning for Clubcard holders as supermarket set to AXE popular feature

Tesco has issued a one-month warning for Clubcard holders before a popular feature is axed for good.

On February 27, the company announced it would axe its Pay+ app and now it has been confirmed that it will also close down the Clubcard app next month.

The change, impacting millions of shoppers who use a Clubcard to get money off their shopping, will be effective in every Tesco store, including Tesco Express and Tesco Metro, from April 18.

From that date, shoppers will need to download the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app to get access to Clubcard prices and vouchers.

The app will allow shoppers to collect Clubcard points and instantly turn them into vouchers, as well as create shopping lists, explains the Liverpool Echo.

Shoppers will still have access to their old points, coupons and vouchers as the Clubcard points will roll over to the new app.

Customers who do not download the app will still have access to their points online.

The new app can be downloaded on Android and Apple.

A Tesco spokesperson said: "With the combined power of Clubcard Prices, coupons and vouchers alongside our Reward Partner codes, Clubcard is the best way to get value at Tesco - and our Grocery & Clubcard app is the easiest way to make the most of all your Clubcard has to offer.

"You can use it when shopping online or in-store as a one-stop-shop to save money, collect points and use your vouchers and coupons. You can also unlock extra value from your vouchers by using them with one of our Reward Partners through the Grocery & Clubcard app."

It comes after Tesco became the latest retailer to lift buying restrictions on tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers

The move followed Asda, Lidl and Aldi who removed all their buying restrictions over the past week.

Tesco brought in buying restrictions in February in response to supply issues within the industry and put in place a three-item buying limit per customer.

Aldi and Lidl also capped the number of peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes to three units per customer while Asda initially had a limit on eight pieces of fruit and veg.

The three-item limit was across tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, salad bags, broccoli, cauliflower and raspberries.

Meanwhile, yesterday we reported that a Tesco superfan who got his Clubcard tattooed on his arm because he kept leaving it at home has only collected £18 worth of points.

Dad-of-three Dean Mayhew, 31, got the QR code for his card inked on his wrist after growing tired of not being able to take advantage of the supermarket's offers.

Since getting the tat in July last year he says he has used it twice daily - and has sent photos of it to friends so they can use it too.

It works perfectly under the scanner at the till but he has been left disappointed at the number of pounds he has earned.

Dean says he has "no regrets" about getting it done especially with food prices soaring.

Dean, a scaffolder from Bideford, north Devon, said: "I still use it all the time. I love the tattoo so much.

"Sometimes when I go in there, the cashier doesn't believe it's real - I have to tell them 'just scan it please!' and they're shocked.

"Everything's going up in price so I'm always making sure I get it scanned now.

"With the points, I'm going to save them up and save towards the cost of Christmas."
