Tesco recalls popular chocolate bar with 'do not eat' warning amid health fears

Happi Free From has issued an urgent product recall on Oat M!lk Chocolate bars supplied to major supermarkets such as Tesco - as they contain undeclared milk.

This revelation means the affected products may pose a possible health risk to those who have an allergy or intolerance to either milk or milk constituents.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued a risk statement regarding the recall, writing: "This product contains milk making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents." They also explained that Tesco is taking the steps to ensure the safety of customers.

The Daily Express reports that the supermarket giant stated: "Happi Free From is recalling the above product from customers. The company has issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product."

They added: "If you have bought an affected product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, please don’t eat it. Instead, return it to a Tesco store for a refund. No receipt is required."

The FSA advised: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."

While food recalls are in fact rare, they should be taken with the upmost seriousness when they do occur.

The FSA explained: "Sometimes there will be a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. Then it might be 'withdrawn' (taken off the shelves) or 'recalled' (when customers are asked to return the product).

"Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.
