Tesco shoppers are being urged to check their freezers for a batch of freezer food that could potentially make you ill if you have a nut allergy.
The UK supermarket giant has urgently recalled a certain batch of their frozen croissants for health and safety reasons as they could contain undeclared almonds.
An allergy alert for the supermarket's 6 pack of All Butter Frozen Croissants (255g) was issued from The Food Standards Agency (FSA), as they contain almonds which are not mentioned on the packaging.
The undeclared ingredients are thought to have been down to a packaging error, which led to some packs being incorrectly packed with Frozen All Almond Croissants.
Due to the presence of almonds, the croissants pose a health risk to anyone who has a nut allergy.
The allergy alert from the FSA was issued on Monday, May 23, and the affected batch has a batch code of LL 111.
The 255g pack of six croissants cost £2.50 and have a best before date of September 2022. So far no other batch codes and best before dates have been affected.
As a result, the big four grocer has announced a recall for the frozen items urging customers with a nut allergy not to eat them and to return them to store immediately. Shoppers will be provided with a full refund with or without receipt.
Tesco has issued point-of-sale notices in stores that will tell customers about the affected product, why it is currently being recalled and what to do if they have purchased them.
They have also contacted the relevant allergy support organisations which will be able to inform their Clubcard members on the recall.
In a statement, Tesco said: "Tesco apologizes to our customers for any inconvenience caused. If you require further details, please contact customer services directly on: UK 0800 505 555."
