Tesco delivery van tips over in middle of road on quiet Bolton street

A Tesco delivery van tipped over in the middle of a road in Westhoughton, Bolton on Monday evening. Residents living nearby reported hearing a 'huge bang' before looking out of their windows and seeing the branded supermarket vehicle overturned in the road.

It is understood the incident happened shortly before 8.30pm, with fire crews and officers from Greater Manchester Police called to the scene. No other vehicles were involved.

Pictures showed two fire engines in attendance, as well as groups of local people stood on the pavement watching on. How the vehicle came to flip over onto its side is not yet known. There were no injuries reported and it was confirmed that the driver pulled themselves out of the vehicle before crews arrived.

The road, which has a limit of 20mph, was blocked off by The Crescent / Broad Walk as the Tesco van sat in the centre of the road. One person living nearby said that they had heard a 'huge bang' before seeing groups of people stood on the street watching emergency services deal with the incident.

They added: "I have no idea how it flipped. It’s all 20 miles per hour around here, from entering at Wigan Road through to exiting at Leigh Road." Another on social media added: "It could've landed on someone or a child out playing."

Fire crews made the scene safe and there were no injuries (Submit)

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 8.30pm this evening (Monday 21st March), two Fire engines from Bolton North and Farnworth fire stations were called to reports of an overturned vehicle on Green Fold Lane, Westhoughton.”

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene and worked to make the vehicle and area safe. Firefighters were in attendance for around forty minutes." Greater Manchester Police and Tesco have been approached for comment by the Manchester Evening News.
