Tesco Clubcard changes: When does the app shut down, changes to points and rewards and more

Supermarket chain Tesco has announced some huge changes to their Clubcard scheme. The current scheme, which saves customers money in-store and has points that can turn into vouchers, is set to change as the current Clubcard App is getting shut down.

Tesco first introduced Clubcard in 1995 and within a year, customers were spending 28% more in its stores. The popular scheme enables points to be spent at the likes of Pizza Express, Legoland and Alton Towers.

Clubcard points are worth less for reward partners

Currently if you convert your Clubcard Points, which you gain by scanning your Clubcard when you purchase something from Tesco, and use them on 'Reward Partners', including restaurants and attractions, the points are worth three times their value. An example is 500 points are worth £5 to spend in-store but when converted for Reward Partners are worth £15.

This will be changing to Clubcard Points for Reward Partners only being worth twice the amount. Meaning 500 points, £5, will now only be worth £10.

The change will come into place from Wednesday, June 14 and until then Clubcard points will be worth triple their amount for Reward Partners before changing to double.

Clubcard app shutting down

The Tesco Clubcard app, which lets you scan a digital version of your Clubcard as well as view and spend your vouchers, is closing down on April 18. Shoppers will have to instead download the revamped Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app if they want to keep using a digital version of their Clubcard. The Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app is free to download on both Androids and iPhones. Find out more, here.

Clubcard points are worth less for petrol

Tesco customers will also gain fewer points when they scan their Clubcard while buying petrol. Currently, motorists are awarded one point for every £2 they spend on fuel.

The new change will mean that you will collect one point for every two litres of fuel you buy instead of one point for every £2 you spend. This change will also come into place from Wednesday, June 14.

All Clubcard information can be found at the Tesco website.
