Tesco announces plan to axe buy one, get one free deals on junk food

Tesco is going ahead with plans to axe buy one, get one free deals on foods high in fat, salt or sugar. The Government has delayed a national ban for a year, but Tesco says it will still press ahead and remove the promotions.

Ministers cited the ongoing cost of living crisis as they deferred imposing the ban. Wales Online reports the Department of Health and Social Care said the ban on multi-buy promotions will now come into effect in October 2023.

Meanwhile a ban on TV adverts featuring junk foods before 9pm has been delayed to January 2024. But on Thursday Tesco said it will "continue with plans to remove volume-led promotions on HFSS products from October 2022".
