Tesco and Lidl shoppers praise 'taste and quality' of product costing 13p and 16p

Supermarket giants Tesco and Lidl are receiving heavy praise for their own-brand tins of spaghetti hoops - costing just 16p and 13p.

Customers say the value item tastes so good it has blown them away, reports Manchester Evening News, with some taking to the "Scrimping on a Budget " Facebook page to share their praise.

Facebook user Janine ODoherty said: "Taste test… Spaghetti Hoops. £1 from Tesco and 16p from Lidl… Lidl Hoops are the winner!

“The sauce is thicker, hoops are nice and firm, my teenage experts were as surprised as me! A saving of 84p per tin."

Shoppers were quick to recommend the 16p Lidl spaghetti hoops, with many saying they even prefer them to the iconic Heinz brand.

Others preferred Tesco's own-brand version, which is priced even cheaper at a bargain 13p per tin.

Susan Whitehouse said: "I was very surprised at the quality and taste of the own brands, even better when they save money."

User Jayne Spiby advised the group: "You can get hoops from Tesco for like 13p the cheapest range."

Speaking of Lidl’s own-brand hoops, Angela Hubbard said: "Always have Lidl spaghetti hoops they are really good value for money I just add a little squirt of tomato sauce to taste the beans are really good as well."

Another Facebook user, Heather Grant added: "The lidl 'wigley' tinned spaghetti is lovely and the aldi ravioli in a tin."

While Jill Tinklersaid: "I buy tescos value range hoops, they are 13p a tin!! Taste good to me, at the end of the day it’s a tin of mass produced pasta and sugary sauce but hits the spot sometimes.

"Why pay vast amount for the branded one? I for one can’t afford the branded ones and refuse to pay that amount for them.."

The own-brand item seems to be a hit with mums looking to keep their shopping bills low.

Claire Williams joked: "I bought these the other day as I use Lidl nappies for my son and didn't want to go to two places.

"My kids all had clean plates, so I picked some more up this week, as soon as my 7-year-old saw the can on the side whilst I was getting their tea ready, she said wrinkling up her face eeurh what's this spaghetti?!

"When I told her it was the same one she'd eaten all up the week before and asked if there was anymore, her face was a picture."

Others were simply blown away by the taste, as user Janine O'Doherty mentioned: "I’m surprised at how nice these were as well!"
